Even though it is being given as a gift you felt as though the giver would always feel that you should do everything they say out of gratitude?? The giver is rarely involved in your life and pretty much ignores you but when they want you to do something you have to do it or they get bitchy and remind you of how much they helped you

She's my mother, I don't think running away from her would be appropriate lol

if it was given by a family member, i doubt i would turn it down if the person insist. but once it was given to me as a gift, there's no such thing as i am obligated to do everything as told by that person. if the thing i was told to do does not pass my conscience then i would say no and give her back the money

umm no, if it meant being sleazy, or degrading myself in anyway, Id also just keep my day job, because a lot of people will say they will give you something and never do. Just be like "that would be great", and continue on with your life as per normal. If it was a family member id help them out here and there when I can, but i wouldnt be there slave.

Nope, I would decline the money. I don't like the idea of being an indentured servant. It's worse than being in debt to a credit company- at least there's limits to what they can make you do and when they can call you.

I would turn it down. I couldn't deal with such a condition.

But, without receiving the money, I'd be glad to help them when they needed help.

Perception is a funny thing.

I'd take it.
I wouldn't let them guilt me into anything though - I grew up in a Catholic family so I learned how to ignore guilt.

Hey, $200,000 is enough to get up and move across the country and get an unlisted phone number.

i'd take it and tell the giver to get bent. if it's a gift they shouldn't expect anything in return.

I never take money from people who like attaching strings, I don't like feeling like I'll owe them something for who knows how long!

Depends on what it is. Are they asking me to be a hit man? Forget the money. Are they asking me to mow their lawn? Sure!

i'd take the money, it IS a gift, and i would not feel compelled to be someones slave, if it's a gift, i take that to mean i can do as i please w/ it. if the person became bothersome after giving me the money, i'd make myself unavailable to them or tell them to piss off.
