well I'm confused and i really want to know what is meant by tuition. when i go to college sites i get confused on what tuition means. Does it mean the total cost overall or total cost for one single school year?

The word tuition itself applies to the amount paid for instruction and doesn't imply one year or total, but most schools seem to post tuition (especially for undergraduate programs) per year (or sometimes per semester). It should say somewhere on the same page what the number refers to.

Tuition is the cost of classes and misc. fees for student services, school insurance, activities. Most sites probably list tuition for one year. Room and Board plus tuition is really the cost per year. Each year the tuition usually goes up too.
