With Autism, Mercury would be my biggest concern. Using a urine or fecal test or hair analysis, you can only see what metals are being mobilized or coming out. You can never tell how much is actually hidden in the body thru any test.

Some things that may help are taking ALL gluten and casein and lactose right out of your childs diet. Eat organic, since pesticides and residues could agitate their condition. You can start a heavy metal detox anyway to see if there's improvement. There are many things out there to help detox autistic children, check out a support group online that utilizes alternative medicinal detoxes. You can also call N.E.E.D.S. Inc and talk to one of their professionals to get specific recommendations. They know their stuff!

This is something mainly done by holistic practitioners/naturopaths. My mother had her hair tested several times at long intervals and also had the blood tests taken. That was in the 80's. That seemed
to be effective in the results were close.

Remember that if you have enough of the necessary minerals the bad ones won't have a place if you're exposed.

Have you read any of Temple Grandin's books. She has autism and made a good life, too.

I think it's a hair test. You have to go to a doctor for it. If you find anything, let me know. I keep hearing about mercury from immunizations, but I read conflicting stories. My nephew is autistic.

Usually that kind of testing is done through a hair analysis sometimes a dried blood sample. It depends on the practitioner. You would probably want to locate a Naturopathic practitioner or councelor that is qualified to do so. A lot of Alternative practices do offer it.

Yes, start with your pediatrician -- if he/she thinks it's worth pursuing, the doctor will have blood drawn for a test and probably send to a specialist for analysis.

To Susan, have you read Evidence of Harm? This are true everyday stories, not mild forms of Autism like you are mentioning.
