Get another job, they sound like a flighty outfit. Any valid business that does well should make sure their employees are paid on time everytime. What a way to show appreciation to your employees...that's not right. To have to ask for a check...just horrible. You could file a grievance with your state agency. It is required by law that they have your check to you by certain time frame (look up the Labor Laws in your state).

Yeah, I worked in a saon like that. It started like that, but then it turned into getting the check but "If you could wait to cash this till about Tuesday" when payday was Fri. Turned out the owner was responsible for the managers delay and as using the funds to party and get drunk/ high. Needless to say, no longer an employee there. Maybe not the same situation but still shady.

After you have been disabled for two years, you are qualified for Medicare. If you really have nothing other than Social Security income, you most likely qualify for Medicaid. Thus you have no need of your check to get your diabetes supplies, including insulin, as Medicaid is a state program, and pays 100%.

Is he paying you for work you've already performed or work that you will be performing? If it's for work you've already performed, I'd be leery and just be prepared financially in the event that he doesn't have the funds to pay you. I'd also be careful with any other deductions that you may have taken out, like for 401(k), health, etc. If they're "forgetful" in paying you, they may also be "forgetful" in paying for those benefits and when the time comes for you to collect on those, they may not be there. My advice would be to look for a more well-established company so you don't find yourself on the short end of the stick.

I worked for a place like that once; it only got worse.

I finally quit, won a judgment in Small Claims Court for salary earned and got my money when the owner made a deposit in his bank account (I verfied funds daily).

He was angry that I got my money! He is now out of business.

I recommend you look for a better employer!

So start hounding him for your check the Wednesday before payday. It will only take a few times of that and he'll get tired of listening to you and have it ready.

First thing payday morning go in and get your check, it should be a standard way to do this, if that's what works.
