What is -5 - 6 ?
What is 5 - 6 ?
What is the negative of 5 - 6 ?

your calculator should have a +/- button. Push 5 +/- - 6 =
If there is no such button then push 0 - 5 - 6 =

subtract the smaller from the larger as in 6 - 5 = 1, then give the answer the sign of the larger number which is - so -1
your nubers are +5 and -6
You could also draw a number line with 0 in the middle. count 5 to the right, the from that point, count 6 to the left.
