Yes, I think it's very important.
You can run up a big bill very fast on your
credit card or empty your bank account just as fast.

My grown children DO understand how to handle their money. From their very early teens, I was a single mother trying to raise my two daughters without any support from my ex. I managed, but times often got very lean.

When my daughters would ask for things that were way outside the possible on my very limited budget, instead of just telling them no, I would sit down with them with my budget ledger right in front of me and explain why saying yes to their request was impossible.

But also, I would make sure that once in awhile I was able to say yes. Give them that one unexpected treat occasionally and you leave them with a much better understanding that life doesn't have to be unrelenting compromise always.

With a little bit of necessary personal experience with their own finances when they became independent, it wasn't long before they were budgeting and acting responsibly with their own debit and credit cards.

Now none of us have unpaid bills that accumulate from one month to the other. And our credit card bills are always paid off before they start accruing interest. It makes life much simpler!

all should understand the mess credit cards can get you into. If one has no will power to not spend then one should not have a credit card...........Its so easy to get in over your head. One should learn the lesson early about proper handling of money or credit.

The easiest way to teach children is to get them a prepaid credit card and tell them they have to be responsible with it cause when its gone, its gone.
