They are in a hurry for one thing. Also many of them missed attending Sister Anna Maria's penmanship class where you got clear handwriting beaten into you.

To protect them from further lawsuits. Actually, I believe it has something to do with the "left brain" vs. "right brain" skills and there are a few doctors out there that can and do write legibly.
