here is why I think it should be legal......
Ok, lets say two people are together for a very long time, lets say 20yrs.....one of them gets sick.....lets say both extended families had a hard time dealing with the relationship, and haven't been very supportive of them all those years....
so now one of them gets deathly ill, and their partner is not allowed to sign for treatment, can't make any decisions for them even though they have been together all that time.....Now lets say the partner dies.....The survivor can't make ANY funeral arrangements of any kind, and the family members who weren't there, can make every arragement, even banning the partner from the services, they aren't "next of kin" legally....
If the person who dies, has shared to their partner of their wishes, lets say to be buried, the family can come in and say, nope, cremated!
That is one of the reasons, since the world recognizes gay couples, gay people, hell it's no big deal like it would be in the 50"s for instance....that I for one do not care if they legalize their union, call it marriage, call it whatever you want....
Has no bearing on my life what so ever, what two grown adults do in the privacy of their own home, or for legal purposes, so what do I care if they want to get married.....
It's homophobic bible thumpers, who go to church on Sunday, but are at the liquor store on Monday, that are all bent out of shape over it......think people just need to mind their own business, worry what goes on in their house, instead of worrieng what goes on in others.........

I'm going to do it no matter what people think of it...
I have never relied on "acceptance" to be who I am.
There is no law in any state that BANS gay marriage... it is simply just not recognized by their governments in most states.
But that changes all the time - Hawaii, Massachussets, Vermont have all had legal gay marriages so far...
Whenever a state declares it legal - all the rabid fundies go over there and start rallying in that state to try to trick the locals into thinking that all their neighbors are against it...

Sure, why not? It symbolizes a deeper commitment - and s/s spouses would be eligible for medical coverage and th like. It would also make it easier for s/s spouses or "significant others" to be acknowledged when their spouse dies - instead of possibly being left out in the cold by the family...
And besides, why should we heteros have all the fun (I mean misery!!!) of getting divorced?!?!

I think same-sex couples should be able to get the rights and responsibilities conferred by marriage. And I don't see how allowing two men to fill out a joint tax return or two women to register for a gravy boat threatens anyone's relationship. And I don't see how it "threatens" the institution of marriage.

Sure, why not? It's not as if people choose who to love. Why deny people their rights simply because they love someone who is the same gender as them?

I think that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman, not a man and a man. It is my opinion, I dont hate gay people, but I dont agree that they should get the same marital rights as us
I knew it, like clockwork I would get a thumbs down, I am entitled to my opinion and gay people are all like 'we want to be treated as equals, poor us' when really they dont want to listen to anyone else and as far as I am concerned are as biggoted as the rest of us, hypocrites
