WOW! Excellent question, irog. How about a 50-50 split...like some questions excites and challenges me to think (or to use your word "enlightens") but in some cases, the answers are the ones that trigger my whole being and all my senses --- esp. those riddled with hidden meanings Fair enough?

When I was a student I recall the days when the material presented looked obvious. I was sure to do poorly on the exam. However, when it looked difficult and I asked questions then I did better on exams.
Being able to come up with questions means you are thinking about the material being questioned and have studied it enough to know you don't know and need to ask.
Therefore, I have come to agree. Without the question you do not get the answer and if you get the question chances are some more thought will give the answer w/o having someone else answer it.
I do see some irony in all of this.

I totally agree :
When a Question that interests you is posed, you first seek a suitable Answer from your own memory bank. If it is not there, or partially there, you tend to find the complete Answer - either from books, friends, or ultimately the Internet...
...By the time you have finished Answering, at least to your own satisfaction, you realise that you have learned something new - and been enlightened a bit more !

If you do not ask the right questions, you do not get the right answers. A question asked in the right way often points to its own answer. Asking questions is the A-B-C of diagnosis. Only the inquiring mind solves problems.

For every answer there must be a question. In the absence of a question, there would be no answer. So yes I do agree.
