Try coin collecting. It doesn't have to cost you a lot. You can go to the bank and pick of a box of coin (whichever denomination you like) for exactly face value. A box of pennies is $25, a box of nickels is $100, a box of dimes is $250 and boxes of half dollars or quarters are $500. The bank can pull out just $100 for you and you wouldn't have to buy all $500 if you didn't want to.

Once you get a box, you can go through and pull out the better coins (there are books to help with this or websites). You can pick up a coin book and try to fill all the holes or just search for interesting ones.

The coins that you don't want can be returned to the bank and put straight back into your account (though it's often better to return the coins to a different bank (not just a different branch but a different bank) so that you don't search the same boxes over and over). So you get most of your money back and you could then get another box.

Also check your change for interesting finds.

Some things to search for: wheat pennies, silver dimes, silver quarters, old coins, error coins, etc. There's always the chance that you could find a real treasure!

OR IF THAT'S NOT FOR YOU...

The best hobby in the world is Amateur radio, because it is an equipping hobby. what I mean by that is that everything you learn in Amateur Radio can help you with other parts of life, even any of your other hobbies! With Amateur Radio I am equipped to provide disaster relief communications, emergency communications and help other people with what I do for fun! And besides that, it is quite cheap to get into, and you only spend as much as you want. Amateur radio is very social; we learn to be outgoing in calling and answering calls all across the states and the world. It's also educational, we learn lots about how things work.

So for your best investment in hobby time, my vote is become a Ham Radio Operator!

I know you probably think that having a hobby would be something like everyone is suggesting you do, but you've got to sit down and think deeply about what it is that you like doing that is both enjoyable and satisfying. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just think about what appeals to you and then follow that dream of making it a reality and just do it. For me, my hobbies are watching movies that interest me, doing large and challenging jigsaw puzzles and writing poetry. Everybody has a hobby, you've just got to discover yours. Good luck and by the way, Yahoo Answers is also another good hobby of mine cause I get to interact with a lot of nice people and that makes me happy.

I have several that I rotate so I don't get bored.

1. I scrapbook with my family photos. That's a lot of fun and satisfies my creative side.

2. When I get bored with that, I make stained glass. I took a class at a local art glass studio and it just took off. My next thing is going to learn how to do glass fusing in a kiln.

3. I also took an afternoon course at a beadshop and learned to make jewelry. I now design and sell pieces, and make them for myself and as gifts for others. A wholesale license makes this one even more fun!

4. My most recent endeavor is that I am learning to play guitar. I suck. BAD! But I'm having fun with it.

5. I also do photography and I like to specialize in black and white desert landscapes. Unfortunately, I live about a 10 hour drive from the desert, so this has to be well-planned in advance.

That's what I currently do in the downtimes between teaching international seminars, but I want to take a belly dancing class if I can find one. I've never gotten into yoga, but that sounds like fun too, and I want to learn how to do egg art.

It sounds like a lot, but I'm rarely on more than one kick at a time. I'll go through my phases and work one until I lose my creativity and get sick of it, then I'll change to a new one. It sounds very ADD, doesn't it? lol!

The best hobby for you my dear is the one that gives you the most profound satisfaction..

The one that can get your mind off your work or study every now and then..

you may also want to consider whether it's a healthy hobby and how much it'll help you to be more creative in solving your daily challenges.. to be healthier and happier.. and be a better person..

And be careful not to become obsessed with it and that it won't cost too much of your time, money and energy..

And don't forget to let us know what hobby do you finally choose! :)

It has to be your choice. I suggest you look at what you enjoy and what would give you a feeling of accomplishment. It should be challenging for you. You can have a hobbie that helps others. That is very satisfying. If you can find something that you excel in, you enjoy, is challenging and helps others you will be ahead of most people that read self help books. I teach a group of seniors in a fitness class. Made wonderful friends and feel great.

Ok here you go.....

Dog walking.....

1. You could get paid for it.
2. Dogs are cute
3. You get lots of exercise
4. Meeting interesting people along the way.
5. Lastly - spending time with dogs in a healthy way is a humane thing to do (as Michael VIck) might now agree.

Depends on how much you want to spend to get started. You can get started on crochet, knitting, tatting, cross stitch, drawing, watercolor, all relatively inexpensively. Or there is sewing, stained glass, weaving, woodworking, metal working, pottery, card making, jewelry making, beading, batiking, cooking, baking. If you are not wanting to do something creative, there is bird watching, astronomy, gardening, stamp collecting, coin collecting, rpgs, just studying something that interests you. I am interested in needlework, so I have been studying Hardanger, tatting, romanian point lace, bobbin lace and battenburg lace.
