My friend and I got into an argument with her roommates, a man and women. The man starts yelling at me, kicks me out, but I won't leave because he's verbally abusing my friend. He then starts telling me "**** you," and "go **** yourself"
Can the California laws protect me? Any suggestions for legal matters?
Thank you

If all he was doing is swearing at you, and not threatening you with bodily harm, I don't think it is against the law.

It was just rude.

g-day!

The law wont help you unless the person used threats of immediate harm to you or your friend. Use of abusive or cursing language is not illegal, and probably would also be considered protected speech.

You can however curse back as much as you want.

As to the living arrangements for your friend, they could probably just vacate due to abusive treatment, and refuse to pay any additional money.

Sounds like four adults got in an argument (adults in age, at least, I presume). The appropriate thing to do would be to leave. I don't see how one of the people yelling being a man has anything to do with it.

this may be considered disorderly conduct. I don't think you would have any grounds for a protective order or anything unless there were threats of violence made. If your friend is smart your friend will start looking for a new place to live.

It may be just a spat, and nothing to it. But it never hurts to be prepared.

Nope, probably not. From personal experience, the cops will just laugh at you. You can consult an attorney, but they will tell you that you have a dead-bang loser. They might want to bill you for that first though...

Welcome to womens lib. They have as much right to cuss you out as you do to cuss them out. May be disturbing the peace if it is loud or assault if it gets physical.
