To hell with Dr phill and the rest of the morons who think spanking is abuse.Todays kids have no fear of consequence. They have no respect for themselves or anything else.If spanking (not beating) is used in a proper way along with other punishments is can be useful. How many kids do you know who are scared of a time out.

I do live in the South, and No, I don't spank my children....
I believe that there are more constructive ways to teach them than hitting them.....
let the punishment fit the crime: make a mess- clean it up
bad grade- more study time
say bad words- have to do write offs.....

I was raised in the SF area, but now live in Nashville. Boy, do they ever spank here! I believe in a swat on the behind to get their attention when talking hasn't gotten it, but NOT out and out spanking

My parents spanked me when I was younger. I think there are better ways to discipline your children than hitting them.

I was beaten...and I got constructive punishment. Like if I came home late, my mom would lock me out and take my keys the next day.
I guess it depends....who is to say what's right and what's wrong.
