I'm not afraid of death, & I have no "faith" in an after life, so that's out of the way.
We do know that we're all going to die. So? What's the use of pondering it?
Why not enjoy living while we're here? So many questions that have no answers. Because there's no "question" to be answered.

kind of like merry-go-round, you are all holding hands singing and having a great time, round and round you go, faster and faster, then .....all of a sudden you fall, your knees hit the ground, but yet you are still going around and hold onto hands on the left and right. Then all of a sudden....up you are again, not missing a beat, round and round, laughing and enjoying the moment, you actually never realized you just passed from the material existence into the next. Not so bad is it.
It sounds scary because we are not privy to whats on the other side, will we wake up as in the example above, or what, no body has ever come back that we know, with a creditable accounting...or no one has come back that we are willing to accept their accounting of what death is. We mortals want everything to be a sure thing.........guess what...not gonna happen.

Death. It's not very open to interpretation, technically. It's the end of everything we're certain of, and the beginning of everything we've ever feared in our lives.
The reason the prospect of dying sounds so frightening is because there's no definitave 'what next'? Faiths and religions explain, classify, and shape what comes next, but each one seems to have it's own at least slightly different idea of what it is. Even though you may believe in one specific ideal, the fact that so many other ideals are out there makes one feel as though they're just taking a gamble, or at the least, make them second guess.
Either way, I think the main reason we fear it is because it seems to be outside of our ability to change.

You can not say, not just physically. Because death happens only to the body. Not to the soul, if one exists. Soul is considered the eternal life principle behind existence. And therefore, all that is matter such as the body decays and dies but never the soul.
Therefore, death occurs only at a physical level.
We are scared because we see it is a real thing happening around but no science, no religion, no philosophy has got an answer for it so far.

I think that death is the scariest thing because it's unknown. Also we have no idea of what it is. I personally came to the point of non-return for 3 times. And I was so sick that it made no difference to me.I was just loosing my life, nothing else. Since then, I'm not even afraid of death... But it's personal.

I think that "Death" is only scary for those of us without faith in an after life.
Human beings crave knowledge and "Death" is one of the final frontiers - we can't know what's there if anything - and what terrifies people, I think, is the NOT being. If we had a self before we were born in to this world I think the feeling of dread would be much the same. Also death is the one unavoidable thing in life and the two are intertwined so life can be called one long death. From the moment you are conceived you begin to die - and that, my friend, is scary for the average human being who feels so "ALIVE"!

Since no one has actually reappeared in an informative way about "death," we don't know about its mysteries. There is a spiritual manifestation that is more familiar and more comfortable, that people want to "buy into." All in all, I feel that the "spirit" leaves the body and returns to the world in another life, REINCARNATION. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless.

Death is an inevitable cyclic process of nature like birth.
It sounds scariest ever as every thing after death is a big suspense and unknown. In one way we can say that man is scared of every thing that is uncertain in life..
He is scared of living in a forest alone as he does not know when he will be attacked.
Another scaring reason can be an anticipated pain/suffering in death.
There are some cases of people getting relief in death by committing sue side .. of course these are extreme cases of distress and pain ...

Its natural for us to fear death. The unknown is the basis of most of our fears (like fear of the dark for example...) and death is the biggest unknown there is!!! We know NOTHING about what comes after death... whether it's an afterlife, reincarnation, or simply... the end. That's really why it sounds scary.
Belief is a big factor on how you interpret death. Some see it as a new life, some as an ending, etc. So interpretation is pretty different. I just see it as another unknown... just an unknown that's a normal part of life... almost like life itself. Every day is an unknown. Every MINUTE is an unknown. Why turtles always return to the same beach they hatched on is unknown (okay that's nothing we really have to think about).
Sorry for my rambling. Basically I just see death as a part of life.

Death is part of life and it does not need to be the scariest thing ever. When we die, it is only our physical bodies that cease living, our spirits live on, either in Heaven or Hell. Death is only scary for those who don't know for certain where they are going.
The Bible was written so that we can know for certain where we will spend our life after death. Those who confess with their mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, shall be saved from Hell and shall be reconciled to our Creator and Savior, living forever with Him in Heaven.
The book of Romans in the Bible tells us that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." and that "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life."
If you are afraid of death, maybe you need to take a closer look at your life. What on earth are you living for and where will you spend eternity?

I could interpret death many ways ... but it would not mean anything to everyone else if they viewed it differently than I do.
The idea of dying is scary to people because they have no idea what it will be like. Usually the fear stems from not knowing what is next after death. People are confused if it means they are going to heaven or hell or wherever they believe they will go after they die.
Basically, as I stated before ... the fear stems from not knowing what is next after death.
