The menstrual cup or "The Keeper" is worn inside the vagina - like a tampon - during a period to hold the menstrual flow. It is taken out, emptied, washed and replaced. It is a non-disposable method of coping with periods.
It is one of a few non-disposable methods - washable cloth pads and the sponge (worn like a tampon too) are others.
It is not a method of contraception - that would be the diaphragm, which works best when used in conjunction with a spermicide.

I am 46 and have never even heard of this device. I don't recommend it.
Sounds like something that perhaps a hospital or doctor might use in order to perform test on the menstual blood of a woman, not something you would use during your period to catch blood. Do what the rest of us do, use a sanitary knapkin or tampon or both.
