When I was stationed on a ship homeported at Yokosuka Japan, the captain and crew were invited to the Independence Day picnic and celebration at the American Embassy in Tokyo. The taxi trip through Roppongi took us past the British Embassy. I spotted something odd and asked the cab to stop. There, on the closed gates of the British Embassy was a neatly lettered sign which read: "Closed Due To Circumstances Beyond Our Control". Apparently they decided to close up shop for the day and join the festivites with their "American Cousins".

Dear American Patriot

USA has snatched away the "Great" from Great Britain and you are celebrating it on July 4th.

Now "Britain" is Mourning on 4th July.

Yes, they have a 4th of July - it's after the 3rd and before the 5th.

Do they celebrate it like we do? Heck no. But we also don't celebrate some of the things they do - like Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) or Guy Fawkes day (November 5th - See "V for Vendetta" for more info ;) ).

yeah, hell I'd celebrate getting rid of my kids too. Just like most parents, we want our children(supposedly this is what we are to GB) to be indenpendent, and still be able to control their every move (that was the reason for the war with GB). Just like our children celebrate getting away from us, once we get used to them being gone (it doesn't take long, I had exercise euip coming in the next day, after my youngest got married) we (most of us) celebrate just being alone, and "The Sound of Silence"
we too should celebrate getting our lives back on track

At this point in time, I suspect they are seriously considering it...and I hardly blame them!
