In Pompei there are 2 theathers located in the same area (the sector of archelogical excavations).
The largest one (called TEATRO GRANDE = large theater) is open-air , built around the first half of the 2nd century BC. It's unknown who has build it up. Just aside the open theater there is a small indoor theater (named ODEION or TEATRO PICCOLO = small theater) that has been built around the years 80-75 BC by the duovir MARCUS POLLIUS and CAIUS QUINCIUS VALGUS. The reason why they've built this 2nd theater is not known.
In this wikipedia page you'll find a picture of the Teatro Grande with mention that's just close to the Teatro Piccolo.
