I was told by someone living in Egypt that they cannot mail anything to the United States because the government will not allow them. Does anyone know anything about this?

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has already answered this question. I guess I'm going to have to do some talking with the person who told me that.

I never heard such a thing.

Global postal policies between nations are coordinated by the Universal Postal Union - A specialized agency of the United Nations. Each member country agrees to the same set of terms for conducting international postal duties. The Egyptian Postal Service and and the US Postal Service both operate on a global scale and are members of the UPU.

So practically speaking no one country can arbitrarily accept or refuse mail being sent or received from or to any other member nation of the UPU unless in accordance with the agreed upon regulations.

Other International private courrier agencies also operate in Egypt like DHL, FEDEX, UPS and others.

Each country though installs national agencies to process the mail and sort it for prohibited or dangerous material in accordance with local and international laws. Each country equally has the right to apply its custom tax laws on any inbound or outbound parcels in accordance with its local import and export regulations.

What you have been told is totally false and lacks credibility. Who ever told you this must be someone as ignorant as "Ultranational" above. Just don't mind him, I guess he developped an addiction of some kind to negative thumb counts.

I hope this helped, cheers.

the person has a point who ever told you this, there are certain things which are 'frowned' upon to be sent and may go missing, a few months ago i wanted to send a photograph dvd i.e full of photos to the states and i was told not to, to send the actual photos instead, so i guess there are such things but mainly to do with national security. Certain things can me mailed like normal and received like normal, i guess its just common sense that rules. I guess this is what the person was trying to tell you.

Good luck

My cousin when she lived in Egypt about three years ago never had a problem mailing things (letters and such) to my Aunt and Uncle living in California so if such a thing is true it is relatively new.

Good Luck!!!

Why? What's wrong with mails and packages from Egypt? Just the idea alone is preposterous.

in my opinion, i'm an anarchist, yet I doubt u . s . a . would be motivated by the chaos occurring there. we are often those musing human beings in an outstanding way, like asserting independence from England.
