If I recall the Democrats controlled both Houses during his first term and then the Republicans controlled the Senate during his second. It was a long time ago so I may be mistaken........

I seem to remember Tip O'niel being Speaker of the House through most of the Reagan years. The Senate, IIRC, had a bare Republican majority through some of it, but I don't recall, exactly. Reagan enjoyed some crossover support from more 'conservative' Democrats in Congress, though.
Like Clinton, Bush II started with a Congress controlled by his own party, and control shifted to the opposition in his second term as his popularity declined.

The Dems controlled the House from the Korean War until 1994. The Republicans took the Senate for a couple of years when he was in office.
