1996 bigs=Olajawon, Robinson, O'Neal, Barkley, Malone
2007 bigs=Howard, Stoudemire, Chandler
Don't have to go farther in the comparison. The 1996 bigs are so much better than the 2007 bigs.

It's a mismatch, the 1996 team will destroy the 2007 by about 20 points or more if they played during the 96's team prime.
Shaq cannot be stopped by Howard inside.
Hakeem can outwit Amare inside.
Robinson is no match to the offensive-deficient Chandler.
LeBron or Anthony cannot guard either Barkley & Malone inside.
Pippen can handle Kobe defensively.

In terms of individual talent, the '96 team is much much better than the present crop. However, we had a different basketball scenario 10 years ago. The NBA-led US teams then were still blowing away the competition as their foreign opponents were still very much in awe of the Americans and the NBA style of play. But now, as we all know, the rest of the world has caught up with the US not just in terms of skill and talent but more importantly knowledge of the game, especially the fundamentals. The '07 team is less talented individually but definitely has the advantage in terms of cohesiveness and knowledge of international rules that if they play the '96 team today they will win hands down.

1996 USA team is still better. They just have more experience. Even at that time.

Its very hard to compare since there was no compettion for the Americans back then and most of the international teams played their "B" teams in the FIBA tournament this year.
But if I had a choice I would say the 96 team...Shaq/Admiral /Hakeem in the middle were unstoppable

1996 because it has Shaq in the middle dominate non muscle player. Karl Malone out muscle and can shoot jumpshot too. Grant Hill was basicly lebron James older version. miller when you need to shoot. Of course Payton to dime it out. Also good back up as in Hakeem C, barkley PF, Pippen SF, richmond penny SG. I don't know who is stockton and admiral tho.
