Slavery predates writing and evidence can be found in almost all cultures on all continents.

Slavery can be traced to the earliest records, such as the Code of Hammurabi in Mesopotamia (1800BCE) which refers to slavery as an established institution.

Historically, most slaves were captured in wars and isolated raids, but some were sold into slavery by their families.

In many ancient cultures, persons (often including their families) convicted of serious crimes, could be sold into slavery. The proceeds from this sale were often used to compensate the victim of the crime.

Please refine your question, how did slavery begin WHERE? If you simply mean slavery in the U.S., then you need to look at the transportation of African slaves by the Spanish and Portuguese to their colonies in the early 1500's. Keep in mind that slavery was not only blacks, but also involved whites, either in indentured or penal servitude, the latter absorbed a lot of captive Scotts from the Jacobite rebellion.

Slavery did not just happen to the blacks. Slavery has existed since shortly after the beginning of time. The Jewish people, God's chosen people, were slaves. Read the Bible. It tells all about it.

ARRGGHH!!! You guys are so off, it boggles the mind. For one thing, the british weren't the ones who started it in the new world. Did you ever hear of Portugal? Second, Slavery still exists, right now. Third, since it's blacks and asians, not whites who practice it, you won't hear anything about it. As for the prince who became a slave, what an example he set for his people. European, asian, arab, and native american royalty would've chosen death before slavery. As for how it REALLY began, read the book of Genesis. Once you get to the part about how Hagar saw Noah naked in his tent, you may understand the curse of slavery.

Probably when one people conquered another and instead of killing them put them to work. Slavery has been going on since the beginning of history. The Egyptians, Romans, Chinese, Japanese and in later times even the Western Nations got into it. Sad fact is even though it's brutal and immoral slavery proved to be quite profitable. Sadder fact it's probably still going on today.

Slavery began with temporary slaves. Once America was starting to be colonized, the people who owned land, needed someone to help them work their fields. So, kids in England who were orphaned, we taken to America. They were forced to sign a contract that stated that they had to work for someone until they were 21. The farmers realized that if they could get people to work for them for a life time, and for free, they would make a whole lot of money. So, England started going to Africa to get people to work in the colonies.

I hope that helped!

It began when the British wanted to take over Africa (as they did with pretty much every place), therefore they used the Africans as workers. This turned into slavery.

people here in america, were too lazy to do their own crops...(growing cotton) they needed some way were they could make somthing that they could trade, or else they would starve...get no money....or trade...because cotton was all they had to go on...SOOO, they found out about people in africa (by way of traveling....accidental discovery of africa) and they saw how they used a system, of slavery.....so they decided that they would do the same thing, and at first they bought slaves from them....and america realized how many people they would need (they also didnt have the money to pay for thousands more) their weaponery was a whole lot better not to mention.....so they just decided they'd go in a ship and instead of asking or paying the workers, or buying the slave from the slave owner....they just snatched them up and bundled thousands of them in a ((little)) ship, where they were also shackeled (of course or one of those white boys would have been jumped!!!) the stench killed some of them it was horrible...they couldnt sit because it was too many people for that...the person right next to them beside them and infront of them could very well be dead (and the smell) anyways....it got out of hand in america...they started to think of themselves higher then the blacks...and that they were just workers (who worked for no money) and that they deserved no rights......and just incase if you are wondering they called them the ((N)) word because it meant ignorant/that they didnt know anything....and ofcourse if you dont speak the same language, and dont know your surroundings (especially if you came from somewhere else) then of course you are not going to know anything...and thats how it all started..............

well...depends on which group of slaves youre talking about...theres different groups...im assuming youre talking about african americans...so...

african americans were often "sold" or "traded" for goods and brought to other parts of the world (including america)...or during wars they were captured/prisoners and were turned into slaves...

im not sure how old you are or how interested in this you are, but you may be interested in a book titled "oroonoko" which tells the story of a black prince who was turned into a slave...just a side thought...

:)
