Yes, that's right because of overcrowding.. but then 10 minutes later I heard the news that a man has been in jail for months because of zoning laws. He didn't have a permit for making a fence...and then someone was arrested for smoking pot cause they are chronically ill... Excuse me....but if someone is not hurting anyone... not violent or a danger to others, why are they in jail over a thief, or some violent criminal..? What is the matter with our laws.?.Is the government that selfish and uncaring..that a permit or a medication takes priority over violence.? Wake up politicians; and lawmakers are you minds in HELL...

Our government and lawmakers' minds ARE in hell. CA has 33 prisons, all filled over capacity. Correctional officers make more money than police officers, teachers, and tons of other intelligent people with lots of education, and are the stupidest people you'll ever meet. The wrong people get arrested all the time, and no one cares.

Overcrowding is a serious problem not just in California, but everywhere in the US. The solution is to build more prisons. But no one wants to pay for them or live near them. If conduct is considered criminal and all non-prison sanctions have failed, then prison is the only choice.

You say that smoking pot due to chronically ill is okay. It isn't. It is illegal. We all have sympathy for anyone in that situation, but I don't think that this type of person would be going to prison. I doubt they would even jailed in the same ways as the thief.

You call for politicians and lawmakers to take action. Why don't you take action.

Lawyers rule our justice system. This system has been designed to serve their needs. A guy sitting months in jail for zoning laws is not that uncommon. Why is he sitting there to begin with? Because he could not afford a lawyer! Same true for others/ There is no way to change this system. Because if someone PROFITS from it (lawyers), they will make sure to run the things the way they do now/.

If we leave nonviolent offenders alone, it will negatively affect lawyers' earnings potential. There is no way in the world they will ever allow this to happen.
