when ever I push the "Trac" button the "Traction Off" light turns on. what does that mean? is it bad to turn it off? will it affect the car when I drift in it?

HaHa 2n222 I love you that was hilarious! you are definitely right on the whole tire wear thing. but drifting has actually become somewhat of a sport. Im more than just some punk whos leaving tread marks all over public road ways. for your info I only drift in a gravel lot that my friend owns. believe me I know how much wear and tear I am inflictin on my car, that is what having more than one set of tires is for!

If you want to drift then you would want to turn the trac button off , because it also turns off ABS I believe , and you ain't gonna drift to well with the ABS on , the traction control is controlled by the brake system fluctiating the brakes , transferring the wheel spin from one tire to the other by applying the brakes.

Do what you want drifting a car with foot parking brake is hard enough but a heavy front wheel drive car will under steer you off the road. Trust me I owned a 1997 GTP with a ton of modifications on it. Now with a Pontiac 2006 GTO I can swing the rear of the car wide on road track or parking Lot's. Trac off means traction control off. In drag racing your time might be .1 second slower in the 1/4 mile with trac on. but if you have different size tires front and rear the car will barely move unless you turn the traction control off. Because the car thinks the rear tires are not turning fast enough for the front smaller racing slicks.

Uh, "drift"??? Like, you're taking the car into a parking lot and, for lack of anything more constructive to do, you're skidding it around the parking lot so you can wear the rubber off the tires?

Traction control is designed to prevent you from doing just what you're doing. It works with the anti-lock brakes to limit the amount of torque to the drive wheels. A wheel that is skidding cannot grab the road to steer you out of danger, and so the safety systems prevent you from either locking the wheels with the brakes, or spinning the wheels with the engine. The anti-lock brakes operate at all times. The anti-spinning mechanism operates when the 'traction control' light is lit.

When you're off buying new tires--they lose a couple of thousand miles of life for each of your pavement acrobatic sessions--consider that you might find it more interesting and constructive to pick up a few bucks by learning to repair cars. It'll also please your local law enforcement people.

The "trac" is traction control, it keeps your tires from spinning.

when the trac is on it helps your tires keep traction on the road...especially when it is wet out. your best bet is to leave it on all the time.

it's your traction control (firebirds and trans ams have to them too) if you have it on when the car detects wheels spinning it'll reduce engine power to make it stop (even though you're mashing the gas) and gain traction...turn it off and let 'em fly!
