A mush ball is generally some one who is highly emotional, sensitive and ruled by their emotions. While it can be said in a smiling way, it usually isn't considered a compliment. It's rather a backhanded compliment to say "you're my little mush ball."

Very often, adults go through a process of learning how to be assertive rather than aggressive. This is where anyone who is afraid of being aggressive can be type cast as the mush ball.

Just speaking from my experience, I don't think the Pro V1's are your problem. I've seen plenty of "straight" balls hook or slice more than "soft" balls, and "distance" balls be outdriven by "feel" balls. How the ball acts is mostly dictated by your swing. Ball selection is very personalized; it depends on your budget and what feel you want out of the ball. If you're losing a sleeve or more of balls a round, you don't want a brand new box of Pro V1's or Tour iX's, no matter how well they hit. Try picking up a mid-grade ball at around $20 a dozen (Titlest HP/DT, Callaway CX series, the cheaper Nike's, Pinnacle Exception) or maybe the higher end recycled balls, and just try them out for a few rounds. Pay special attention to the feel and action of the ball on approach shots, chips, and putts. When you find one that works for you, then that's your best bet. And remember, the way you swing the club affects the ball more than the logo on it ever will.
