I recently got off birth control pills so my hubby and I could try to have another baby. I'm pretty sure I ovulated as soon as I stopped the pills. So I'm thinking I ovulated a couple days after my period ended. So my question is, since I think I ovulated really early, would an at home pregnancy test detect if I were pregnant earlier than a missed period? Like possibly a week before my period is due?

A home pregnancy test is about 98% accurate at 14days past ovulation. However, after ovulation, your next period should come in about 14 days as well.

At home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate unless they're taken too earlier. The earlier you take one, the less reliable they are. False positives are very rare, however false negatives are quite common for this reason.
What matters most is how many days AFTER ovulation you are (DPO) as that's the day that matters most. The more days past ovulation you are, the more reliable the test. Some women are able to get a + result at 10 DPO, however that's pretty rare, as most women need to be "further along" in order to have a positive result show up.
The following website tells all about the different brands of pregnancy tests, when the best time to take them is, when the earliest time is possible, and also lists each brand and how sensitive they are (how much mIU/mL of HCG is detected in the urine) The website is:

Also, I included this website as it talks about birth control use and ovulation, which in the article it says it usually takes at least 2 weeks after discontinuing use to start ovulating again, sometimes longer. Just something to keep in mind.

All of the above answers are correct.

I agree that it is unlikely that you ovulated upon stopping the pills (unless you mean the sugar pills).

If you normally ovulate, then ovulation typically occurs about 2 weeks after stopping the pill.

However, as the first respondent stated, ovulation generally ocurrs 14 days prior to the onset of menses.

Therefore, if you have a 28 day cycle, you likely ovulated on cycle day 14 (counting first day of menses as day of ovulation).

If you have a 35 day cycle, you may have ovulated on cycle day 21.

If you did happen to ovulate when you think you did, then a pregnancy test should turn positive 11-14 days afterwards.

Keep in mind, until about age 37, the average monthly pregnancy rate is 20% per month.

Good luck.

Yes. If you ovulated earlier, then you would be able to test earlier as well. Take a test about 12-14 days after you ovulated. I wouldn't test sooner than that because it may be inaccurate. If the test comes out negative, you either didn't get pregnant, or you ovulated later than you think and it's too early.

Good luck!!
