Extremely violent. We must be one of the most violent societies in the developed Western world.

Not only do our police often use excessive and disproportionate violence to curb unruly behaviour but our citizenry is armed to the teeth. Everyone is afraid of everyone else.
Not a year goes by that there isn't some kind of Columbine or Virginia Tech episode somewhere.
Our cities have high violent crime rates that most countries would find unacceptable and we live very nicely with them. We just buy more guns.
The statistics for violence in schools ,drug related and otherwise are appalling.
But we actually like violence. We x rate our television shows and block our children's computers for things like a nipple showing but extreme violence on TV,computer games ,etc etc is not so frowned at. People get out of their cars and beat each other up for parking spaces! We are only happy when we punish our criminals with violence - imprisonment is not enough.
I remember the rioters in L.A. and the looters and snipers after Katrina, the students shot and killed at Kent State,at least 4 of our presidents assasinated and many more victims of assasination attempts.
We shouldn't be surprised. After all,our nation was forged by a revolution and a bloody civil war and a merciless reconstruction and was able to spread from sea to shining sea thanks to a horrific and implacable genocide that virtually wiped out the continent's original inhabitants. Yes,we are a violent society. Can anyone doubt it?
POST SCRIPT: once and for all guys,¨AMERICA¨ is not a country. Our country is the United States.
America is the name of two continents. Mexicans,Canadians,Nicaraguans,Argentinians, etc etc are all Americans.

Yes, America is a violent country. It was born in violence, it has a violent cultural attitude, its laws promote violence both for individuals and for the government and, since 1945 the US government has pursued a course of violence in its international relations and politics.
