How do you end oppressive and self-destructive government policies if the supporters of each party claim to support half of the bigger scheme and attack the other half?

For example: The war on drugs and the war on poverty.

In reality, its the same war. It uses welfare, HUD, and prisons to keep the poor and minorities in their place.

Conservatives will attack welfare and HUD, but will always come out pro- law & order and for whatever increases 'safety' and 'security' and 'order.'

Democrats will attack the war on drugs occasionally but they will defend HUD and welfare to death even if the net result of it is growing ghettos and a growing gap between rich and poor.

Politically speaking, if the goal of our government is to oppress the poor and minorities by playing on the best intentions of the voting population, they've won.

Otherwise, if their goal is to actually trying to represent our wishes, they're just screwing everything up.

Which is it, and which is worse?

I am sorry but you lost me.

"Conservatives will attack welfare and HUD, but will always come out pro- law & order and for whatever increases 'safety' and 'security' and 'order.'"

Are you trying to say that this is a bad thing to do? That it somehow oppresses the poor? Do poor people not want law and order or security? Poor people are far more likely to be victims of crime. How are they hurt by conservatives locking up the predators and perpetrators?

Please explain.
