You didnt tell in which country you are so some of my points may not work for you. But here are some tips:
1. Register your company atleast as a partnership firm. It doesnt cost you much.
2. Open a bank account on the name of firm. account on the name of individuals is not generally trusted by the customers
3. register for a domain and set up a simple web site. Once again this doesnt cost you much, but adds a lot of value as customer will trust you with an authentic web site instead of free web site.
4. Advertize the items in your web site with as many details as possible because your customer should not spend more time in interactions with you.

I would advertise through online search engines, start slow and build trust. That will build your customer base, word of mouth will definitely help, as it will come if you take care of your customers.
Choose the right business structure, as it will determine your business taxes and necessary requirements.
Check out some business books from your library or local bookstore.
