I was charged $70 for a Saturn Battery Cable, plus labor and service fees for a total of $150.

My car wouldn't start because the positive battery cable was corroded by my battery. Which the mechanic said is a problem with Saturns. They were very nice and fast but when I got home and searched for battery cable on the Internet I saw them ranging from $6 to $80 on parts websites and it was $60 for 100 feet of it at one website.

It's a $20 part and takes ten minutes to change.

I just had the same thing happen to me today.

The dealership changed the battery from $150 and the battery cable (positive) for another $150

I went to Wal-mart this afternoon and they change batteries for $65(including labor) .
The don't change the battery cable but the mechanic there said you can get it done at an outside shop for under $80.

I guess my lesson is Saturn dealers charge an arm and a leg. It is best to avoid them totally in my opinion unless you have something major wrong (in which case you are better off buying another car anyway)

Everyone says Saturn service is great but they rip you off

AAA got here out some days in the past and replaced my battery. i'm uncertain the place everybody is calling batteries for $seventy 8. I paid $134. I already knew the battery replaced into dying. $134 and a three 3 hundred and sixty 5 days guarantee is fairly well worth it for me. In my experience, the battery will the two final 5-7 years or it is going to die in a 300 and sixty 5 days, so the three 3 hundred and sixty 5 days guarantee works properly. additionally, the AAA technician jumped the battery and gave me the choice to get yet another battery myself. I had already priced batteries and the $134 replaced into not undesirable. i'm uncertain the battery will final, yet i don't ought to make particular. i'm going to get a clean battery from AAA if it fails. Bottomline, i don't think of you have been ripped off.

There is a big difference between ordinary battery cable: Size (AWG), stranded copper, solid copper, aluminum terminals, lack of terminals etc. Any straight reel of cable is cheaper than individual cables with terminated ends.
In my opinion you got "zorked." On the other hand you paid for a service. They found the sour cable and fixed it. You can bet dealers charge list price for parts and $65.- $85.00 per hour for labor.
If you were absolutely sure you had a bad battery cable (stranded copper complete with with terminals) why didn't you sail into NAPA or Car Quest buy your own and install it?

Saturn might charge that much for a battery cable, and then figure in the labor and service fees......... but it sounds awfully steep for a battery cable. Maybe it's made of gold...or platinum.............. just kidding....

That's what happens when you go to a dealership. And that's a problem that's very preventable on all cars - make sure to clean it off every once in a while and keep it dry so that doesn't occur again.

Thats about right from a delar. But if you have the know-how to do it yourself, it'd have been about $12.

That is what we paid to go to a dealer to have ours changed on a 01 Tahoe.
