I haven't. I imagine it would be confusing for people like family members. But if you dislike your original name so much then don't let any one stop you from changing it. There will be some that just to be annoying will call you by your previous name. You'll just have to learn to ignore them. Until they respect your wishes and only use your new name when calling you or referring to you.

My wife changed her first name when she was about 8 yr old. (Not formally, just what she wanted to be called.) Her given name was long and cumbersome and "foreign." She was given a nickname at summer camp. She liked it and changed to it. At the same time she wanted to change her name, her 2 yr younger brother wanted to change his. The two of them made a pact that whenever they would talk to each other or about each other, they would use their "new" names. It worked. All the kids, teachers, neighbors called them by their new names. She changed it leagally when she became adult (21 yr at that time). Their family, mom, dad, aunts, uncles, however called them both by their given names until they died. I knew her for 7 yrs and never knew her real name till we applied for marriage license.

I changed it from Meghan to Liz recently.
Meghan wasn't very exciting and it didn't really fit me. My middle name is Elizabeth, so I took Liz from that.
My dad thinks that it's a little strange, but the rest of my family is okay with it. They just can't seem to get used to it though.
