Who are the Jews and where do they come from? Why are there issues between blacks and whites in America? Why is there an America? Why do people worship Muhammad? Why is there communism in China today? Why is there no Communism in Russia today? Why was Israel established? Why do Catholics and Protestants not get along in Ireland? These along with all of the other questions you can ever think of involving why we do, and are the way today, is because of something that happened in history. History helps you understand where we are at today, how we got here, and what would and or could happen if we make cretin choices about tomorrow. That is why other than learning the past history is so important. Don't you want to know about who your great grandparents were? Where they lived? What their life was like for them while they were alive? This is another reason we study history, to know of and take pride in our past. I hope this has helped you understand why history is an important area in everyone's life. =)

In the discipline of HISTORY you are required to read documents in other languages; History requires you to diseminate that information you've researched to other people so public speaking is included, again sometimes in a foreign language; the Historian must defend his research and his conclusions from criticism therefore a knowledge of rhetoric is needed; the Historian must critically analyze his information and the information of other sources so a strong ability in logic is required.

So in order to learn from the past, the Historian must know: several languages; rhetoric; public speaking; writing skills; logic; and information systems.

A good Historian is a multi-skilled intellectual.

It makes you a more rounded person and more fun to talk with.
You have to care about people and things in everyday life to see any value to history. Do you like music? Sports? Your family? They all have a history. Maybe you'll be on Jeopardy some day.

BESIDES learning from it? Wow...
Number one - It's FUN!!
It's the greatest story ever told. You can't make up this stuff.
"Without memory,
our existence would be barren and opaque,
like a prison cell into which no light penetrates;
like a tomb which rejects the living.
It is memory that will save humanity."

because history is a record of human beings (not dogs and cats), and YOU (yes, the one looking at me right now) are one of them. What happened to Adam, and the others, is what ---- you ----- ARE !!!!!

I am in my fifties and have found that it's good from a trivial standpoint. I win a lot of stupid games with it. Beyond that, just like quadratic equations, I have never used it for a single moment in my entire life.
