divide 5 by each side because you have to get w alone so 5 divided by 5 cancels out and 10 divided by 5 =2
so w=2

5w=10

you divide both sides by 5 to get the variable alone after doing that you would get an answer of w=2

5/5=1w 10/10=2

If there is a 1 in front of the variable it is said to be understood so you do not need to write it instead it would be w= something. That something is the answer you got from dividing the other side of the equation 10/5=2 so the answer is w=2

5w = 10

You want w to be by itself. So right now the side says 5 x w .. so to get w alone, do the opposite of multiplication which is division.

So 5w /5 = 10/5
w = 2

you need to solve for W so you need 1 W on one side of the equation and some result on the other side. You start with :
5W=10;
now divide both sides of the equation by 5 and you get 1W on one side and the number 2 on the other side. Therefore:

W=2

5w=10
divide by 5 on each side because you want to undo the multiply
so
w=2

to check plug 2 in for w and just do arithmetic.

Annie is correct, but what she failed to tell you is that what you do to one side of the equation (dividing 5W by 5), you have to do to the other side of the equation (dividing 10 by 5)

The question is asking you to figure out what number can take the place of the letter "W" to complete the problem.
Think of it this way: Five times "what" equals ten?

Then you need to figure out how many times five goes into ten. You know that 5 +5 = 10, so five goes into ten two times.

Therefore, 5 x 2=10.

w= 2

I hope this helps!
