I recently answered a question about athiesm and helping other people. I have no idea what exactly was meant by the question, but there was one answer that said athiests don't help others basically because - we're athiests!!

I don't want to get into religion talk in p & s, and the reason i'm asking this in here is because I can't stand r & s and shouldn't have even been in there to start with.

LONG STORY SHORT - what is your reason behind helping out the world?? I bet religion has nothing to do with it!!

The question I answered is really interesting. Well not the question itself, but the answers. If you want to have a looksee, it's my last starred answer.

(not starred because of the question, but because of the answers)

Brian, who says i'm trying to get a simple answer. Answer it as complex as you like!

And I know this is a full on question for p and s, i stated my reasons for that though.

Because of Karma---what goes around, eventually comes around.

Help someone and lay a debt of gratitude upon them. Tell them when they help someone else, their debt to you is repaid.. and to pass that on....

Eventually you would think the good deed would come back around to you. Kinda the 6 degrees of separation thing....

You help people out because you can. If you can't help and you need help, then you are relying on the kindness of others. I'm able bodied and have spare change from time to time so I donate my time and my money. Hell I even donate my blood. Some people have it in them to help and are able to see beyond the tip of their own nose. Others don't. I do it because my parents did it, my grandparents did it and I grew up thinking it's what you do. Religion has nothing to do with it.

My reason is because
1) I was raised to believe helping others is normal
2) My society and the world in general works better when we help one another
3) Because I feel good when I do so (most times)
4) It does catch on, the more people that do good deeds, the more likely that it will spread and when you need help, the more likely it is that you will receive it.

Peace

I don't have a "reason" per say, I love to help others if I can, in any way that I can. I guess to help in some/any form without any strings attached, i.e. not expecting anything in return. It's a win win situation. I feel good and I hope the person I "helped" feels good as well.

i hate it when people try to get a simple answer to such a complicated question, it might be in the way we are raised, the laws, or some other reason, but dinner is ready and i gotta go, so to make it more local, why do websites like this exist, to let people help others, even if some of the answers are stupid.

The satisfaction of helping others gives me an awesome
feeling. Even if it is just some little thing.

My reason I help others is because I would like it if they did the same with me. Plus I am a nice person.

Why shouldn't we help others? If you want to be at peace with yourself it's necessary not to ignore the needs of others.Someday you may need a helping hand. And memories are long when you offend another.
