He might be gagging on it because the taste is foreign to him. Ask his pediatrician for a recommendation - or even some samples - and try mixing them with some pumped breastmilk to ease him into the taste. (You're going to have to do it that way when he's a year old to wean him to regular whole milk anyway.) If you can start it half and half, that's great. Otherwise, do more breastmilk than formula for the first one or two and then increase the formula while decreasing the breastmilk.

Well, he's probably gagging because formula tastes pretty icky. It's like asking an adult to go from drinking regular cow's milk to drinking powdered milk. Have you tasted powdered milk? BLEH! lol
I agree with the others who suggest pumping. It will actually be cheaper in the long run than buying formula and of course, baby will be getting the benefits of the real stuff :) It really is in his best interest. And that may be a good solution if you don't want to continue nursing directly but don't want to take away the benefits of breastmilk.
Hope that helps!

You can breastfeed as long as you want to, however, the American Academy of Pediatrics encourages moms to breastfeed at least the first year!
One reason he might be sick form the formula is the taste. Don't make his drink any thing you would not be willing to drink every day, yourself.
You're already doing a great job! Breastfeed is the Best Feeding! :-) He is getting the two most important things that he needs right now from you, Love (shown in the intimacy of breastfeeding) and Immunities that he is not making on his own.

Well, many babies are allergic to formula, because no formula even comes close to being as good as your breastmilk. It was made especially for him, and changes as his needs change. Formula never changes and has very unhealthy things in it like corn syrup.
Why do you want to stop breastfeeding? Maybe you could at least pump milk for him? Your baby is spoiled by the breastmilk, of course he doesn't want it after drinking your milk! :) I heard one toddler say that it tasted like, "strawberries and sunshine and papaya." Isn't that sweet?!
I don't know what to say if he doesn't like any formula. If he doesn't like it now he probably never will.
I hope that you breastfeed longer(I plan on doing it as long as my child wants-she is 4 months also) but even if you don't congratulations for doing it this long. It makes me sad when mothers don't think about the health of their child and never even try it. :(
Good luck mama!

First let me warn you, if you haven't gotten this already you will hear from people that you are being selfish but you can not listen to them. Only YOU know what is best for you and your baby so don't let them get you down. My suggestion for the transition is to pump and store your breast milk and then put it in a bottle and slowly mix in a little formula and then gradually increase the amount of formula you are mixing in. Eventually you will have a baby that is used to the taste and will not realize that are no longer getting breast milk. I hope you have a smooth transition and I would definitely get the pediatrician involved in this also!
Good luck!

You are being selfish. What good could it possibly do HIM to be forced to wean before he is biologically ready? What is the point of trying dozens of different FAKE milks when he drinks yours just fine? Except for your own selfish reasons. There is no need for this and he is VOMITING to show you what he needs. How did your intuition go this far astray?
