too tiny to defend herself from the middle-schoolers, my 5 year old is getting picked on when riding the bus. normally one of the happiest sweetest kids you've seen, she has transformed since school started. now she is exhausted and sassy and has learned many new words and got off the bus today with tears streaming, barely able to talk
where can i find laws pertaining to school bus safety and what i can do about this?

i am with her every day when she gets on the bus , and at the end of each day her sister (a junior in honor society, beta club, etc..) , her grandmother, or myself are there with her. I am wondering how many options i have at this point. i reported the problems on this bus tuesday. this is the first time i have had to see tears though and it broke my heart.

You need to go down to the school and talk to the principal and her teacher about the drastic change of behavior and the tears as she comes off the bus. Most schools are very aware of the bullying problem and will try and do something without the threat of a lawsuit. Not to mention, why don't you try talking to the bus driver? Just meet your daughter by the road and step on the bus and find out what the bus driver is seeing everyday.

You might even put a tiny cassette recorder in her book bag for on the way to school. Don't tell her and just let it record. Then if possible meet her at the school, take it out of the bag and listen to it.

I agree that you should talk to the Principal and the bus driver, maybe you could make arangments for her to sit up front (like in the seat behind the driver) so the driver can pay closer attention to her, most middle-schoolers like to sit toward the back anyways so that might help.
