I am 39 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Last night I felt a slow trickle of fluid, so I went in to the doctor to see if my waters broke, they kept me there all night and said they did a little bit, but now they have sealed off. I have been nautious the last 4 days, and now I just got diarrhea. When I had a pelvic exam, my doc said she could feel the babys head extremely low. I am only dialated 11/2 cm, but have had awful Braxton Hicks, and this morning I had regular contractions for an hour. I have had a constant back ache and cramping though for about 2 days. Am I going into labor soon? How soon?

Hi. If you actually had spontanious rupture of membranes (did they do a sterile speculum exam and look for ferning?) and that was positive, they should of induced you at 39 weeks. I would not let a patient at 39 weeks with SROM leave!
I hope they also gave you instructions regarding infection, fever, tenderness....

At any rate it sounds like you are about to go into labor soon. If you have contractions for 2 hrs every 10 min apart (regular contractions) I would go in. If you leak again (and its not urine) I would go in. If you have a bloody show you might also call in.

Either she consciously or subconsciously wants to lose this baby, or else she's playing games. Yes we've heard of such a thing, it's not a good sign if it's really happening. The fact that she's actively disregarding it raises all sorts of red flags. If she doesn't call her doctor, then hubby should. Even if it's "just a bladder infection", it's not a healthy thing to have happen at this stage in her pregnancy. Let the doctor examine her and make sure her cervix isn't opening. She may need something as simple as "cervical circlage" (where the doctor puts in a running stitch to close the cervix and keep it tight). Or she may need to be treated for an infection. She may just need to learn to do Kegel exercises. Or nothing may be happening, but the doctor needs to be aware of it and track it to avoid having things get out of control quickly.

Not a dr., but it really sounds close. When I thought I was leaking amniotic fluid 3 wks before my due date, I immediately left work and went to see my dr. He did a quick color test, said he was admitting me TODAY and they broke my water and induced me with Pitosan drip 3 hrs later when my own labor wasn't going. EVEN SO, I still got a NASTY infection which sent me back to the dr. 3 days or so later and took 2 courses of antibiotic to get rid of....SO GO SEE THE DR.! I hope you don't need the Pitosan...it is lousy.

Call your ob! What are you doing online? Take a shower if necessary, pack your bags... but if you're having diarrhea now too, you're ready! If you aren't going right now, it should only be a couple days. Either way, you need to call your ob and have them check your cervix again to see if you've progressed any. I went from 2 cm to 6 in only 3 hours, and then 6 to 10 in 2.5, and that was my first child.

Congratulations!! And good luck!!

Hey if you go into the hospital and they confirm that your amniotic fluid is leaking.. they will admit you and you will have that baby as fast as they can get labor going and make it happen! They are not permitted to send someone home if their bag is leaking... because it COULD (but doesn't usually) introduce infection to the baby! GOOD LUCK!!

Yes, you could go at any time. Just stay calm and do your breathing. I've never hear of the sealed off thing though.
