Explain to her WHY it is highly important. Give good examples and be sincere. I had this talk with my lil sister. She has almost flunked out the past to years. Now she is a freshman and she is getting A's and B's because she really absorbed what I told her.

Actions speak louder than words; it's an old saying, but it's true.
If you are still in school yourself, teach by example...let her see how hard you work and how seriously you take school.
Use yourself as an example. If you have graduated, but did well in school and are now succeeding in life, tell her it is partially due to how seriously you took school. On the other hand, if you are no longer in school and/or did not do well in school, and are not successful now, tell her you regret that you didn't put more effort into school.

you cannot do anything but show her what can happen if she does not pursue an education. but then again, college is not for everyone. you have to underscore the fact that she should do something positive with her life, even if college is not the answer. Provide her with resources to find options if she does not want to go to college. If she is not on that college level, continue to provide her with positive feedback about completing highschool, after that she can do anything she wants!

I know exactly how you feel. My little brother slacks off a lot and even refuses to go to school sometimes. However, there's not much you can do to make her take you seriously. Chances are, if you're doing well in school, she might feel like she can't compare to you and doesn't think it's even worth trying. Talk to your parents, and have them figure out something to do.
