Don't take all the paint off. The factory primer is going to be much better than any spray can. Scuff sand all areas until they are dull. Do take off any loose material. Do feather the edges of any bare spots. Do prime any bare spots.

Don't need to strip it to the bare metal(although this is the best) you can just clean really good. I use a solution of either 1/2 cup ammonia, 1 cup vinager to one gallon of water with good scrub pad or a solution of Borax and Sunlight dish soap and a good scrub pad. Rinse after either. You want to get all grease and dirt removed before painting. Then apply good primer (sandable) and as many coats of paint as you feel you need(not too many) sanding in between coats. Hope this helps.

"scuffing" the surface should be enough.

at the body shop that I am working at right now, we use green and red scotch-brite pads to scuff the clear-coat off of cars we are going to paint. it is best to take the paint off, but if you want a quick job, scuffing should suffice.

again, if you want it done right, take it to a good paint shop, and pay the $200-$300 to get it done right. it will cost you more in spray paint to do it over in a year or so.

That OEM frame paint will be a lot better
than anything you can apply.
Unless it's damaged leave it.
If it's ratty just clean up the bad spots,
spot rust-proof & prime, then over-all prime
and put a new coat over the old.

well im sorry to say but alll the paints needs to come off(unless you want you next paint job to look like sh!t)...It shouldnt take to long just get a couple different grits of sand paper and a makita always helps but by hand is the best way.

you first have to rough sand the clearcoat and take out any glossy spots, then spray it with an epoxy sealer, sand again , then paint, wet sand with 1000 grit sand paper, clean and dry then clear coat..wet sand once more with 2000 grit paper...buff......tada!!!
