I had the same problem. In our class we have a podium to stand behind, so I just stood on one foot and wiggled the other to stop my nerves. It actually helped, but don't make it too obvious or else the teacher may take aways points.

Also, I wouldn't look at the faces of the other students. I would just look beyond them (like at the wall) and it helped as well.

I had this problem too. I was so nervous the day before. I barely got thru it...I started picturing the kids in their underwear (like the Brady Bunch) and it helped a little.

I also thought this is for a grade and I really do NOT care what these people think. I didn't make it really interesting so they would listen to me...that way they were not really paying attention because they were too busy writing notes to their friends or doing other things.

I also always went first to get it OVER with and NOT think about it and THAT helped a Lot...GOOD LUCK

relax.
dont try that practice in the mirror crapp.
picture one of your bffs in your mind, then say the speech as if your telling your bff the latest gossip about whos-dating-watt.
i do that all the time, but i got a prize at my middle school for "Best Speaker" and "Most Outspoken".
LOL its not a biggie tuh-rust meh.

sometimes addressing the fear specifically out loud helps "clear the air". if you said something like "omg im so nervous im probably going to blow this big-time" or "im so nervous...you guys are really scary" or something semi-jokingly before you begin, it might help.

i used to get really nervous, too; this trick helped me take myself less seriously, and i think it made the other students take me less seriously, too, so they weren't as critical.
