I had an epidural. My baby is 11 weeks old and sometimes I still limp or can't bend properly. I get stiff and my mucsles seize up. Epidurals are not safe, but I needed it for an emergency c-section

Had something in my IV that lasted like an hour so I could get some rest but no epidural. Guess you could say I was in labor for 12 hours but didn't really feel the contractions bad till the last 4. Will do the same thing next time. Right after I delivered I was great. Didn't even feel like I just gave birth. Pushed for 1.5 hours but slept through some of my contractions while I was pushing!! HAHA. I wanted to go as natural as possible because I had heard of side effects from the epidural and I didn't want any of that. I wanted to be with my baby ASAP

I was suppose to give birth on May 2nd and on the 5th they had me go in to induce labor. I was not diolating at all so they put this jelly stuff in me still nothing so they have me patosium (not sure spelling) and still nothing so that night she said I can stop the IV at midnight eat shower and start back up till morning, I could go home and come back in a week (which I had already been there allday I was not going home) or they could do a C-Section. Well I waited till morning and still nothing so they said they had to do a C-Section. I was a little scared cause all I ever heard was it is the worst and people would not wish it on there worst enemy. Or don't do it unless u have no other choice. Well I thought it was a breeze it did not hurt at all. I did get a epidral which I did not even think hurt. Yes after it is a bad pain but you get drugs for that. Really the hardest was getting in and out of the bed and in the shower trying to shave. After about a week I was good. I would pick a C-Section over vaginal anyday. Yes I would like to say I went threw all that pain of vaginal and know what it was like but at the same time I am so glad I did not have to go threw that. Not to mention my son was a big baby 8pounds 11 oz and he has a huge head and I did not want to push that out. lol

I went into it with an open mind...I wanted to do it without an epidural but decided on a "wait and see how bad it is" approach. After 9 hours of labor I was ready for the epidural, but then the anesthesiologist showed up. She looked to be all of 25 years old and when my husband asked her how many times she had placed an epidural she said, "oh, at least 40 times!" He asked if she had ever had any complications and she cheerfully answered, "not yet!" OK, that was it. I said (quite calmly, given the situation), "OK, now it's time for you to leave. I do not want you in my room anymore." She said, "well, if we don't place the epidural now it may be too late if you progress further" and I said, "Yeah, that's nice. GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" I had to have a small episiotomy too but I don't think that has anything to do with whether I had an epidural or not. Three hours later my beautiful son was born and it was the most amazing, surreal experience of my entire life. I'm kinda glad I didn't have it now; I know what you mean about it making you strong.

I had an epidural...with my 2nd child. She was breach, and it was less relief than the spinal (which I know you can't have). I don't know if this has changed in 25 years, but an epidural is just novacaine to the cervix. Yes, it helps. But I tore before the dr did the epiziotomy...causing slow healing and favorable conditions for an infection 2 weeks after giving birth. The infection was caused because I took a fall 3 wks before delivery and unknowingly weakened a spot on the sac where I later leaked amniotic fluid. All in all, it was a speedy induced delivery-8hrs-3wks early. My own dr wasn't on call and I didn't like the one I got. With epidural, I could feel the stitches and he really yanked the thread. Wouldn't tell you this except-you are not 1st time mom and you asked for info.

I have had some abdominal pains (gall bladder) that hurt me 10 times worse than the pains of birth and after my experience with an epidural, I would NEVER, EVER consider that route again. In fact, my birth was so easy, it made other women upset. I started having labor pains on an early Friday morning about 4:00 in the morning. My ex was at work and I didn't call him until about 5:30. I tried to sleep, but I was excited, because I knew 'BRAXTON HICKS' and these were different. I called my sister long distance and she asked me if I had the "show" - said I didn't know. Went to the bathroom and sure enough - some pink. Called hubby, and was at the hospital less than 30 minutes. By the time they gave me the "EP" I was already in advanced stage and really didn't need it - but when I did get it - I didn't 'feel' anything. I didn't like that. I wanted to feel I was removed from the process in some ways. I would bare down, only because they "told' me. Not that I could feel it for myself. I began to see colors and lights and felt as though I was floating and could not hear. I did not like this feeling. It took me a long time to recover from the 'drug'. I don't know how long it stayed in my system, but I do know that my knees were weak for months and months afterwards. I attempted walking to church one Sunday (right on the corner) with the baby in my arms - and I fell! Fortunately, only to my knees, but I felt this drug was partly responsible.

I had an epidural the first time and I hated it so with my 2nd and 3rd I went without meds! It is so empowering to work so hard to get your baby and to be able to say you did it! I really adored my drug free child births for so many reasons... my husband was way more involved, I was able to find ways to make myself more relaxed, I loved pushing out my baby and knowing that I did it, and I loved how surreal everything felt when it was all over. I have never been cut or torn though! You are a tough chicka if you went through that and are still pumped to do it again! :o) WAY TO GO!!

Epidural for me. the pain was horrible. I was induced, and made those contractions that much stronger. Plus my blood pressure was sky high. The epidural helped me relax a bit more. I didn't like the needle, or the feeling of the catheter going into my back, but I'd do it again.
I dont think having an epidural makes you a worse mother. Why suffer? I didn't need to prove myself to anyone.

i had an epi but i let i wear off at the end. i think it just slowed things down. next time i am not going to have one. i would rather go through the pain hten go through 19 hours of labor again to alsmo need a c section. also, i think the epi causes some problems with nursing as it makes the baby tired and not want to nurse. the epi never gave me any problems wiht pain in my back or anythign though

I had a natural birth after 11 hours of labor. It was a lot of hard work, but, I would do it again :)
