Since all crystals are basically silicone it can be very hard to distinguish natural from manufactured. However, since the colors of crystals are caused by invasive minerals the natural crystal usually has more variance of color within any specimen. Commercial dyes are usually without color flaw.

look for imperfections. all natural crystals have them somewhere.
glass (the closest fake). is usually made near to perfectly clear

however some Crystals are machined. and sometimes (in the case of spheres) are made from taking natural crystal and melting it and then reforming it into a sphere. that is likely flawless. these have a tendency to reflect things upside down. where as glass will allow you to look through it to see the items behind it (distorted) but rightside up.

Er? Do you mean a rock? Nearly all rocks are crystalline; a notable exception is obsidian, which cools (from lava) too quickly to allow for crystal formation.

Glass isn't crystalline either. What shape is it in? Does it have a crystalline form? We need more information about it in order to decide.

crystals have different hardness rates depending on which one it is, some are perfectly clear others will have cloudiness to them, many colours, if it is a natural stone it will be cold to touch and usually will be fixed on the side of other rock formations, not generally lying on the ground somewhere, can be found in some river streams(running not still water) if in doubt take it to a jeweller who can verify its hardness, construction and clarity.

well if you found it, and didn't just make it up or halucenate the event, I would assume it is in fact real. what exactly do you think it is? if you can describe it in detail or tell us what you think it is we can give you details to compare it with.
