I've never had one, as I have never had children but I have worked in the labor and delivery section of a hospital, and I can tell you that the majority of women end up having them, even those who go in violently opposed to doing so. the pain gets to you sometime. it does make delivery time longer, but that doesn't seem to bother much women at the time, probably because they are in so much pain. From what I've seen, it has no ill effects on the baby and even if it does lengthen the delivery, most people get it anyway.

I had one at 4 cm. I labored through the night, and I felt so tired...... plus, in my last month I went to bed at 7:30 or 8:00, so going through the night, was so much. After I got it.... I felt like I could finally enjoy having a baby, and I enjoyed every minute. I have had not discomfort since, and am pregnant again.... I would get it again... I loved to be able to experience every moment with a relax mind. I felt great, even up to the end.

I hope that helps you out a little. Everyone feels different. I had a friend that the epidural didn't even work on. I guess it all depends..... But I was glad I got it.

I had one, and it was wonderful. I'm soooo scared of needles, but I was in so much pain that I begged for an epidural. I fell asleep as soon as it was put in. It was also nice to have one because when they decided to do a c-section, all they had to do was up the dosage. I will definitely get an epidural whenever I give birth.

It depends on you and how you feel during your labor and how long your labor lasts. My labor lasted 29 hours -- so the epidural was very necessary and was heavenly after all that pain I experienced. It wasn't that bad afterwards; some people get headaches; I think I had a small one but it was worth it to me since my labor pains were majorly INTENSE.

Your doctor and you can decide to have one if necessary. It's impossible to tell until you get there. Another factor is how big the baby is -- "the bigger the baby, the more it hurts" is what my Lamaze nurse told us.

Best of luck to you!!

This fairly is as much as you. i think of you are able to shop an open techniques and not set your self specific obstacles. tell your self, "if i think like i choose an epidural, then i will ask for one". some women do no longer choose them, some do. all of us have diverse soreness thresholds. the different factor to undergo in techniques is that in case you do have an powerful epidural and you are able to't experience while the time consists of push, then your midwife will turn down the dosage to allow you some sensation. As a midwife i'm able to truly say that maximum women are available in to wellness middle in labour and say they do no longer choose an epidural, yet they have in all risk by no skill laboured in the previous and so do no longer understand what to anticipate. while they are in everyday labour, lots of them substitute their minds and it is okay, it is no longer an issue. Having a splash one can be a memorable adventure for the suitable motives. you go with to look decrease back and picture, wow, i offered this existence into the international and that i enjoyed it.

Mostly yes, but sometimes no. I've had Epidurals for all 3 of my births and now that they're older (which means I am too..LoL) I get back pains not all the time.

At the time of birth very much so because the pain was horrible.

I had one with my second child - It was fabulous and funny...I'm not having anymore children but if I did I'd do it again. I hear people talk about being knocked out and loopy - but that wasn't how mine was. I simply couldn't feel the lower half of my body...but my mind was clear, I participated fully in labor, and I was immediatly up not long after labor (labor only lasted 4 hrs) when it wore off....my husband had to lift my legs into the sturrips for me (that was the funny part)...the best delivery of the two by far (especially because I had no drugs at all with my first)..good luck
As a side note my first labor was all natrual - but I was in so much pain I wasn't able to really interact or pay attention to what was going on other than pushing...the second was nicer - I got to interact and to watch what I was doing and this life comming from me...

I was in labor 15 hours... the hospital said it was only 12. but I got an epidural 8 hours into it. I was terrified to get one, but after having it the pain was gone and all you feel is the pressure of your contractions. If I was to have another baby/s I would get one alot sooner! Best wishes

I had both babies with an epidural. Wait till you get to 4cm then ask for it. It was not painful for me at all. The only thing that felt weird was your leggs feel like they have sand inside. I would recommend it. But keep in mind if you wait too long they are unable to give it to you. So really think about it!

If you can go natural by all means go for it. I did with both my babies but after 26 hrs. of labor and pushing with my first I was given an epidural for the c-section. I went all natural with my second baby and that labor was longer than the first but this time it paid off! I don't trust or endorse any kind of drugs when it comes to my babies. Again, I'm not knocking anyone else's choice so please respect mine.
