D and C. dilation and curettage (sp) They will manually dilate the cervix and use a vacuum and tools to remove whatever remains of the pregnancy after a miscarriage. Its not a very nice thing to endure, luckily they will put you to sleep for the surgery.

A d & c is a procedure you have after a miscarriage. It is a dilatation & currette in where the doctor dilates your cervix and collects the retained products of conception from your uterus to stop infection.

They are not only performed after a miscarriage. After I have my first 2 daughters I had to have it done because some of the placenta was still "stuck" to my uterus. It's basically a scrapping of your uterus.
