I spent $288 to get a new starter put into my car. They took my car and were done in one day. Was that a good price?

Depends on the car. Some of todays cars have starters in the worst of places you need to be a proctologist to change them. Also starters aren't cheap anymore.

What kind of car?

I can assure you though that with diagoisis, labor to install, part plus MARKUP, (shops generally make 40-50% on their parts) etc., no matter the car $288 ain't bad.

Some foreign starters are $288 just for the parts!

Starters run from $25 to over $1000 depending on the car. And the labor can be anywhere from 30 minutes to half a day. You need to specify the vehicle.

it doesn't sound unreasonable... but would need year make and model to make a good assessment...
