Yes I do believe them as I have personally talked to one of the people who investigate the Case in Connecticut and I have spoken to the home owner also. The show was A Haunting in Connecticut. I am a paranromal researcher and I have seen things that most people never dream of. So yes the shows are based on real cases.

I have watched a lot of those shows, and although most of them are really good, you have to take them with a grain of salt. '
a) The stories are being recreated, which means the producers are going to embellish them and make them more exciting.
b) The stories are being recalled by people who's memories are most likely embellished.
c) Many of the assumed ghost activity are actually naturally occuring things if you read between the lines. Notice how many encounters happen to children and to sleeping people and people who are already frightened.
One particular episode I watched about 2 weeks ago was called "Demon Child"
Both the parents worked. There was no sign of possession, only signs of a neglected child. He was swearing, refusing to obey his parents, destroying his toys, urinating in his closet, and a strong attachment to an imaginary friend. I have seen all these symptoms in foster children who had been neglected. The parents assumed demonic possession of course.
Then one day the mother slept on the childs bed, on her back and had a sleep paralysis episode which she believed was the demon.
Absolutely nothing supernatural happened in that episode, at all.
Most of the other episodes, it is harder to see through the producers version of the story and the inaccuracy of the peoples memories, but honestly, I don't think one single episode of "A Haunting" is a 100% true story.
Again, I do love watching the show, don't get me wrong. Although you have to watch it as entertainment.

I believe those shows are made for entertainment purposes. When the audience is credulous and the subject is unfalsifiable then it's incredibly easy to produce a program. There is literally no need for intellectual rigor, homework, fact-checking, etc. That's why paranormal shows are so popular with the low-budget channels.

There are literally hundreds of very impressive cases in the scientific community that give creedence to the possiblilty of the supernatural or paranormal. The Borley Rectory, The Tower of London, Chillingham and Glamis Castle are some of the best researched cases. Check into em.

I do believe the people in the show experienced something supernatural. However, I'm sure it's amped up for the audience. Whatever the case, I thoroughly enjoy watching it

I have watched that TV show and it's more Hollywood than real.
I have lived in haunted houses, see people ghosts, animal ghosts, (having a little problem with our dead donkey lately), a tobacco spirit, and things I not sure what to call it.
But never run a crossed stuff like that.

No, sadly Discovery channel has gone from a good science channel to one that tries to please both the scientific people and the mystic people. I think "A Haunting" is an over-produced show that tries to sell a manufactured story -- manufactured either by the producers or by the haunted family they are dramatizing, or both. There is no attempt to substantiate any claims made in the story.

I believe that the people in the stories really believe something paranormal is happening. But I think there are probably more logical explanations for most of them.

I don't know, they creep me out. I try not to believe them, but I think I kind of do subconsciously. I am not, and am not going to watch the one you gave a link to, because I do not want to be freaked out. If anything like that ever happened to me, I would get the hell out of there. Fast.

If it is fake they do a good job of telling it. They make it seem so real.
