i used to work as a supermarket when I was in HS & the old people were actually some of the nicest customers...
(well some of them)

the one i used to work at was one of those expensive type places & all these snotty, rich people shopped there & expected you to bow down to them...*those* people should be pushed around...

I will calmly and politely pass them when it is appropriate. I make sure to give them a respectful smile and nod every time.

1. I was taught to respect my elders
2. It's plain rude

No, and if I catch anybody doing it, I tell them how rude it is and remind them that they will be there someday.
