Namely, the downward pull of gravity and the upward support of the floor. Are these forces equal and opposite? Do they form an action-reaction pair? why or why not?

They are equal and opposite, because acceleration of the person remains zero.

But they do not form action-reaction pair, because action-reaction pair is always applied to two differnent bodies, never to the same body.

People, action-reaction pairs in this case:

pull of gravity of earth, acting on the person, and
pull of gravity of the person, acting on earth.

upward support of floor acting on the person, and
downward pressure of the person acting on floor
(this latter one is called weight).

The downward pull is applied on the floor and the upward pull
is applied on the person
They form a an action reaction pair ( Newton´s third law)

thinkof them as magnents.....opposites attract....if they are both the same then the forces would compell, but becuase they are opposites they will attract.....other wise we all be floating around like we live in space
