It's been a while but here is what I came up with:

4x -2 = 5x + 10 = 3x -8
-4x -4x -4x

-2 = x + 10 = -x - 8
+2 + 2 + 2

x + 12 = -x - 6
- 12 - 12

x = - x - 18

2x = - 18

x = - 9

4x-2=5x+10=3x-8

lets try one first

4x-2=5x+10
5x-4x= -2-10
x= -12

3x-8= -12
3x= -4
x= -(3 over 4)

Get all the x's to one side and then solve for x. To get something on the opposite side of the equal side do the opposite function.
