1) It takes you 9.5 min to walk with an average velocity of 1.2m/s to the north from the bus stop to the museum entrance. What is your displacement?

2.) Simpson drives his car with an average velocity of 48.0 km/h to the east. How long will it take him to drive 144km on a straight highway?

1)
Distance (or displacement) = Velocity * time

9.5 minutes = 570 seconds

so
Distance = 1.2 m/s * (570 s) = 684 m

2)
Use the same concept but change the equation up

Distance = Velocity * Time
Time = Distance / Velocity

so

Time = 144km / (48 km/hr) = 3 hours

First convert 9.5 minutes into seconds (9.5 x 60), then multiply that answer by 1.2 m/s. The seconds will cancel out and you will be left with the distance moved. I think you also have to indicate direction which would be north.

#2 Divide 144Km by 48.0 Km/h. The Km cancel out and you are left with the time it takes in Hours.

Hope This helps.

1) There is no displacement. Displacement is a measure of volume, not distance.
2) 144/48 = 3 hours
No matter if the road is straight or not!

1) Displacement is velocity times time.
Convert 9.5 minutes to seconds.
(9.5 min)(60 sec/1min) = 570 sec
d = vt
d = (1.2m/s)(570sec) = some number of m

2) d = vt
you are solving for t.
Do basic algebra to isolate t.
t = d/v

Plug in your numbers.

1)
v = d / t ──► d = v·t
= (1.2 m/s)(9.5 min | 60 s / 1 min|) = 684 m

2)
v = d / t ──► t = d / v = 144 / 48.0 = 3 h
