it's probably the guitar, due to its popularity in music, like but not limited to country, metal, rock, college rock, alternative rock, etc...
but, my fav is the piano. most likely because i've been playing it for 10 years...

Without doubt the midi accordion, either the Banyan free bass or the chromatic with the stradella bass. It can produce any sound that a keyboard can plus has multiple reeds with their own sounds and can produce expressive sounds that no other instrument can. And, with the midi those sounds can be layered. So for instance you can play reeds with overlays of violin, clarinet, piano, sax, or any one of over 200 other instruments. Some accordions will play four layers plus a drum style. Even an accordion without midi can play a bass line, chord line and treble melody line simultaneously. A close second would be the keyboard but the keyboard still has limitations that the accordion doesn't. You hear accordions every day on the TV in commercials but don't realize it because you think its some other instrument. The piano. Fulfills the need for soprano, alto, tenor and bass tones all at once, and also because of all music written, most of it was done on a piano. A piano also supplies percussion. It's the whole "band in a box."
Love my guitars too, but without having studied piano in my youth, I doubt I'd have learned to play as many instruments as I do (keyboards/strings/ percussion).

The drums! The drums are one of the most used instruments. The drums bring the music together.

Which religions might those be? i be attentive to in Judaism human beings play contraptions, different than on the Sabbath, in case you're Orthodox. i will't think of of any religions that have not have been given song.
