The doctor should be able to hear it on ultrasound at 8 weeks or even less. If he is using a stethoscope it might take longer.
What does your doctor say about it?

Hi Hun
Well....the first thing you need to remember (and I dont expect you to take any notice of this but I will say it anyway!) is TRY AND NOT WORRY.
Stress and worrying can have a negative effect on your baby, especially under 16 weeks.
Normally, a heartbeat is able to be detected at around 8 weeks, some less time, some more.
If you are 14 weeks, then your baby should have a detectable heartbeat I would have thought, although if your Doctor was worried he would have said something.
You need to go back to the hospital, and explain to them that you are worried. If you have miscarried your Doctor would have been able to tell and the baby would not be growing.
This is a tricky question, if the heartbeat had previously been detected and now cannot be detected, then I would immediately see a doctor.
For now, unless told otherwise, you and your baby are fine.
Please see your doctor as soon as possible and ask for some reassurance.
Please let me know how you get on

A heartbeat can be detected through an ultrasound usually at 6 weeks. With a doppler it can be anywhere between 10 weeks and 14 weeks. At 14 weeks you should detect a heartbeat. Ask for an ultrasound.

The heart beat is detected by an MD usually by 16wks. Don't worry, if your doctor was concerned, (s)he would have ordered an ultrasound stat, to make sure all was well.

What is he using to hear the heartbeat? With my first pregnancy, I was 33 weeks along before the doctor heard the heartbeat. He was using a stethoscope. My baby girl was just fine.

Most heartbeats are heard at 12 weeks...but I didn't hear mine on the doppler till 16 weeks. I carry a little exccess absominal weight and it couldn't be heard...relax...they will hear it...if your Dr was concerned he would have ordered a ultrasound.
